Higher Education through University Grants

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)

The Foundation has granted PKR 30 million (approximately US$ 500,000) to LUMS to build the Jahangir Siddiqui Hostel, a dormitory for male students as part of the development of the School of Science and Engineering at LUMS.

Karachi Education Initiative/Karachi School of Business and Leadership (KSBL)

The Foundation granted PKR 103 million (approximately US$ 1.3 million) to KSBL. KSBL is a new business school being established in partnership with the University of Cambridge.

Institute of Business Administration, University of Karachi (IBA)

The Foundation in July 2010 granted PKR 100 million (approximately US$ 1.2 million) to IBA to build a state-of-the-art, 400-seat auditorium at IBA’s City Campus. This project is presently in the planning stage.

Jahangir Siddiqui Auditorium at IBA

Located in the center of the city, IBA is the oldest business school outside North America. The school has been producing crème de crème of corporate leaders for decades. Aligned with the Foundation’s objectives of enhancing educational facilities in the country, MJSF pledged Rs. 140 million towards the construction of a state of art auditorium at IBA. After the plaque and groundbreaking ceremony, the project entered its construction phase in August 2012 and is expected to be concluded by December 2013.

Our schools offer subsidized, high-quality education with full scholarships for most of our students

JS Academy for the ‘Hearing Impaired’

The JS Academy for the Deaf is a specialized school in Karachi for deaf and mute children. The Academy has achieved the highest academic scores amongst all schools for deaf children in Karachi. The Academy has 165 students of which 18 students are from other cities in rural Sindh and the Khyber-Pakhtoonkhwa province.

Mainstream Education

FIF School and Intermediate Science College at Mirwah Gorchani
Through the Fakhr-e-Imdad Foundation (FIF), whose major donor is the Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation, we manage a school with 400 students in the Mirpurkhas District of the Sindh Province, which is built on 34 acres of land gifted by one of the Directors of the Foundation.

FIF School Manderawalla

Through the Fakhr-e-Imdad Foundation (FIF), we are building a school in the Mirpurkhas District of the Sindh Province, which will be built on 20 acres of land gifted by the Late Haji Munawar Manderawalla. This project is at present under development.

Other Schools

In addition to work and support of education by the foundation, certain JS Group companies also manage schools which currently have a combined enrollment of 3500 students. These schools are near factories or villages, where the JS Group has a business interest and are set up as a convenience to its many employees who work near remote areas. This initiative stems from our strong belief in supporting the local communities in areas where we operate.

Vocational Training

Vocational Training Center at FIF School, Mirwah Gorchani

The Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation in collaboration with the Public Private Partnership Unit of the Planning & Development Department, Government of Sindh, has opened a Vocational Center at the FIF School in Mirwah Gorchani. This vocational institute aims to increase the capability of village girls and women in sewing, embroidery and knitting skills. A class of over 30 female students has been started and more students are expected to enroll for evening classes.

Karigar Institute, Karachi

The Karigar Institute is a vocational training center in Karachi which currently has a graduating class of approximately 100 students per year of electricians, carpenters, motorcycle mechanics, plumbers and refrigeration professionals. We expect to increase our number of students to 300 students per year by the end of 2011. Fifty percent of tuition fees is subsidized for all students. The poorest students all receive a full scholarship.

Specialized Programs

National University of Singapore Entrepreneurship Program Scholarships

The Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation and Sajjad Foundation (a charitable foundation based in Singapore) provide scholarships for a summer program in entrepreneurship for Pakistani university students. The students are selected after a rigorous national merit competition and represent different universities and colleges across Pakistan. This program has just completed its Fifth year.

IBA Sukkur / IoBM Specialized Training Program

The Foundation trains 14 students from IBA Sukkur, a business school in interior Sindh, in partnership with the Institute of Business Management (“IoBM”) in Advanced English Language and Presentation Skills, followed by summer internships for all 14 students at the JS Group companies.

Academic Scholarships

The Foundation provides a number of merit scholarships to high-school and university students from Pakistan.
