Press Release – JS Academy for the Deaf celebrates its 10 years For Immediate Release

Karachi: JS Academy for the Deaf is a project of Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation and Noor-E-Ali Trust. It is one of the best charity institutions imparting education to Deaf children in the country with a unique concept of having an open door policy, allowing all the deaf children to avail higher education without any age restrictions. JS Academy is facilitating these children to break the barriers of communication.
JS Academy has completed 10 years of its launch and within its short span has also been granted affiliation with Karachi University to undertake BA Degree programs due to its long standing stance to fulfill the higher education gap for these students. To celebrate the efforts of the well-wishers of JS Academy and its management had a ceremony to celebrate the 10 years of JS Academy with their alumni to follow up on their success and integration into the society. To mark this auspicious occasion Ms Laila Dossa and many other notable guests were also present and spoke regarding the initiative. The focus of the event was to collect data on the lifestyle of the alumni in order to arrange future relevant programs pertaining to their personal and professional development.
It is the only school in Pakistan where 9 Deaf Teachers and 20 hearing teachers have been employed and have received on job training to conduct research in this field. In addition it has an art gallery where deaf people can come, exhibit and showcase their art work allowing them to sell the paintings to earn a decent livelihood. The school had a humble beginning with 4 teachers and 5 students and now it has 180 students receiving quality education at a very nominal charge. This could not have been possible without the collective efforts of all its well-wishers, which has led to it going from strength to strength and not only providing quality education but also catering to the social development of these students. Ms Leila Dossa has been lobbying for the rights of the disable in Pakistan for many years and hopes that all stake holders collectively seek to ensure equal rights are granted to differently abled persons.
