Health Care

The Foundation has a focus on building specialized wards in hospitals and financial contributions to hospitals that serve the poor. In addition, we hold medical camps in various rural areas to bring medical services to areas without Health Care facilities and also provide disable people with wheelchairs.

Hospitals

National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD)

The NICVD is a state of the art 351-bed cardiac hospital in Karachi where the Foundation has donated PKR 11 million (approximately US$ 145,000) from a total of PKR 15 million to add a 30-bed ward to its old 19-bed cardiac emergency ward. Approximately 100,000 patients are attended to in the emergency unit per year. NICVD provides subsidized treatments for all patients.

Obstetric fistula is a hole in the birth canal caused by prolonged labor without prompt medical intervention or due to sexual abuse causing a chronic incontinence. A simple surgery can normally repair the injury, with success rates as high as 90%. This is an expensive procedure with the cost of a surgery being approximately PKR 380,000 (US$ 4,500). The Foundation has established a specialized ward named the “Obstetric Fistula Center” at the Karachi National Hospital to treat all patients free of charge and with access to very high quality urologists and gynecologists as part of this program.

Indus Hospital

The Indus Hospital is a 150-bed hospital in Karachi that provides free of cost medical care to the poor. The JS Group gave PKR 7 million (approximately US$ 85,000) to the hospital as sponsorship

NICH is the only public sector hospital doing pediatric surgeries round the clock, free of cost. NICH department of Pediatric Surgery is a tertiary care facility with 120 beds and OPD facility carrying our approximate 5000 surgeries annually and attend to more than 38,000 patients in OPD.
In view of MJSF’s objectives, the Foundation is constructing a Day-Care Surgery Unit at NICH. With provision of Day Care Surgery it is expected that almost 40% of the existing load will be eased. This shall benefit about 2000 families as a direct effect and almost equal number will be indirect beneficiary because of availability of beds.
